Not OK 02:52
Search for meaning / cul de sac Search for meaning / double back No excuses / no regrets But all you can tell me / is you're not dead yet Cool and tasty / green delight Pick o' the litter / drink in the sights Charge your pleasure / on your Mastercard With any luck, who knows, tonight / you might be hard Got nothing to say, it's not OK (4x) Self-indictment / pointed guilt Watch it tumble / watch it built Law and order / never wins Pride and malice / double sins (double sins) Got nothing to say, it's not OK (8x)

Elusive 03:25
So you had that conversation And you avoided confrontation But you live with such frustration When you're really needing more It's well known that you trusted But now you're feeling busted And the ship's completely rusted And too far from the shore Don't bite the hand that feeds you Maybe someone out there needs you And the charges that you plead to Not guilty of the crime Don't go looking for a handout Just do your best to stand out Every time your life is planned out You end up turning on a dime (break/bridge) The big prize is elusive And life is not conducive To behaviour that's abusive And fighting for your way The big prize is elusive And life is not conducive To behaviour that's abusive We've had our fill today

Nasty Boy 03:48
You took advantage, cut out my tongue Made sure to finish while the night was young Your heart is hollow, you can't fill the hole No salvation for your rancid soul You can't create so you destroy Oh you are such a nasty boy You hate the sinner, but you love the sin You're a disgrace when you fake it again I left the field, no, I'm not in your game No winning, no wonder, and you are to blame You can't create so you destroy Oh you are such a nasty boy Get off my planet, don't breathe my air No pity on you, I do not care Nothing to offer, you got nothing to say STFU and get out of the way You can't create so you destroy Oh you are such a nasty boy Nasty, nasty, you're such a nasty boy (STUF and get out of the way)

The Easy Way 02:47
You don't know where you belong Don't know where you're going Always helped you to be strong Took my turn at rowing Everything you want is upstream Did you think that you would get to take the easy way Carved initials in a tree We were only children Dreams for you and dreams for me Bet we could have built them Coasted long enough, let's pick up speed Did you think that we would get to take the easy way The easy way / The easy way Seen too many gone astray Too many lost in fighting Got to get far away From what you are inciting No one ever says, "There's too much love" Did you think that you would get to take the easy way Did we think we might get to take the easy way What made us think that we could take the easy way

That time we nearly lost it / Almost bought the farm We must have had a deity / Keeping us from harm I never see inside you / You never look that clear But when all this is over / Why don't you come on over here Let's you and me go have some fun Some kind of change has gotta come Desperate for an answer / You try your luck at cards But no matter what the reading / You know your life is hard Strain to hear the echo / Of words you never said It's time to come to Jesus / And tell him lies instead Our sins are burning in the sun Some kind of change has gotta come Well, I couldn't sleep for dreaming / And you were always there I need your arms around me / Love and warmth to spare I fall into the gutter / I crawl onto my knees I know that you're the strong one / The one I need to please We don't know where we'll get it from Some kind of change has gotta come Our sins are melting in the sun Some kind of change has gotta come
7.
Loss prevention dusk 'til dawn Won't you put your helmet on Seek protection from the storm Shelter where it's safe and warm Erase a line that was never there Shout your freedom through the air Safe is not where you belong You're too brave and you're too strong Do what I could never do Lead the way and follow through Be the change I failed to be Shake the world and make them see (repeat)

Couldn’t believe all the things I was hearing We’ve been consumed by what we are fearing Cut through the underbrush, search for a clearing Shake up the planet, the crisis is nearing How can we tolerate so much that is wrong Say we are helpless and must go along Out of our hands because we don’t belong We pull back inside when we need to be strong Wringing our hands is like hoping and praying No known effect from the words we are saying Coulda showed up but we’re too busy playing Circus and bread for the price we are paying Let’s take some action, I’m sick of the noise Repurpose the network, throw out the old boys Don’t settle for soma, don’t settle for toys But ya better hold tight, ‘cause creation destroys Tears of a crone / she weeps alone / for sin she must atone Needs readjusting, that bullshit detector Decrease the tolerance, set a new vector Turn it around, it becomes a reflector Pushed through the lens of a movie projector Shining a light on the way that we live Innocence squeezed through the mesh of a sieve Virtue must be more than performative Been a taker too long, I’m ready to give

about

The authoritarian regime to our south drove this recording, the pandemic coloured it, and a witches brew fuelled it. Three of these songs are new. Four are a few years old. One is almost 40! They feel 2020 to me.

This album is dedicated to Carmen Wiseman, my love of 40 years and counting, the best COVID partner in the world, who is always supportive, who never complained about the noises, and who let me use her bass and djembe.
